ReadCultured.com is an independent American digital news publication committed to delivering accurate, fair, and trustworthy journalism to communities across all 50 states. This Editorial Policy outlines the standards, principles, and processes that govern every piece of content published on our platform.
Our editorial team adheres to these standards without exception. Advertisers, sponsors, and external parties have no influence over our editorial decisions.
1. Our Core Editorial Principles
ReadCultured’s journalism is guided by five core principles:
Accuracy — We verify facts before publication. Every claim in our reporting is supported by at least one credible, primary source. We do not publish unverified rumors or speculation as fact.
Fairness — We give all relevant parties an opportunity to respond before publishing stories that may reflect negatively on them. We present multiple perspectives on complex issues.
Independence — Our editorial decisions are made solely by our editorial team. No advertiser, sponsor, partner, or external party influences what we cover, how we cover it, or what we publish.
Transparency — We are open about who we are, how we operate, how we are funded, and how we make editorial decisions. We clearly label all content types so readers always know what they are reading.
Accountability — We hold ourselves to the same standards we apply to others. When we make mistakes, we correct them promptly, openly, and without attempting to hide the error.
2. Editorial Independence
ReadCultured Media LLC maintains a strict separation between its editorial and commercial operations.
Advertisers do not receive favorable coverage in exchange for advertising spend. The presence of an advertisement on our Site does not influence our reporting on the advertiser or any related subject.
Sponsored content and native advertising, when published, is always clearly labeled as “Sponsored” or “Partner Content” and is produced separately from our newsroom. Our editorial team has no involvement in the creation, review, or approval of sponsored material.
No member of our editorial team may accept gifts, payments, free travel, or any other benefit from sources they cover or may cover in the future.
3. Sourcing Standards
ReadCultured holds its sourcing to the following standards:
Primary Sources First — We prioritize original documents, official records, government data, court filings, law enforcement press releases, and direct interviews over secondary or aggregated sources.
Multiple Source Verification — Significant claims are verified through at least two independent sources before publication wherever possible.
Anonymous Sources — We use anonymous sources sparingly and only when the information is of significant public interest and cannot be obtained through any other means. When anonymous sources are used, we clearly state in the article that the source requested anonymity and explain the general reason why.
Expert Commentary — When we include expert analysis or commentary, we clearly identify the expert’s credentials and any relevant affiliations that readers should be aware of.
Official Statements — We accurately represent official statements and always link to or cite the original source document where possible.
4. Content Types and Labeling
ReadCultured publishes several distinct types of content. Each is clearly labeled so readers can always distinguish between them:
News Reporting — Straight factual reporting based on verified information from primary sources. No personal opinion or commentary from the author.
Analysis — In-depth examination of news events or trends. Grounded in verified facts but may include contextual interpretation. Clearly labeled as “Analysis.”
Opinion / Commentary — Represents the personal views of the named author. Does not reflect the official editorial position of ReadCultured. Clearly labeled as “Opinion.”
Sponsored Content — Paid content produced by or on behalf of an advertiser. Editorially independent from our newsroom. Clearly labeled as “Sponsored” or “Partner Content.”
Aggregated Content — Content sourced or summarized from other publications with full attribution and links to original sources.
5. Crime and Public Safety Reporting Standards
Given that crime and public safety is one of our core coverage areas, we hold ourselves to specific standards in this area:
We only report crime information obtained from official law enforcement sources, court records, or verified public documents. We do not publish unconfirmed crime reports from social media or unverified tipsters.
We always include the presumption of innocence. An arrest or charge is not reported as a conviction.
We do not publish the full names of juvenile suspects except in extraordinary circumstances and only where legally permissible.
We do not publish the names of sexual assault victims without their explicit consent.
We follow up on cases we have previously reported and update our coverage when significant developments occur, including acquittals and case dismissals.
6. Weather and Emergency Reporting Standards
Weather and emergency content is time-sensitive and can have direct public safety implications. We hold our weather reporting to the following standards:
All severe weather alerts and emergency information is sourced directly from the National Weather Service, FEMA, local emergency management agencies, or other official government sources.
We clearly direct readers to official emergency services for life-safety decisions and never position our coverage as a substitute for official emergency guidance.
We publish weather updates as quickly as accuracy allows, prioritizing reader safety over speed when the two conflict.
7. Use of Artificial Intelligence
ReadCultured may use artificial intelligence tools to assist in research, data analysis, and content drafting. However, all content published on our Site is reviewed, edited, and approved by a human editor before publication. AI-generated content is never published without human editorial oversight and verification.
Any content that has been significantly assisted by AI tools will be labeled accordingly.
8. Conflicts of Interest
Our editorial team members are required to disclose any personal, financial, or professional relationships that could create a real or perceived conflict of interest in their reporting. Editors will determine on a case-by-case basis whether a conflict of interest disqualifies a team member from covering a particular story.
ReadCultured does not cover companies or organizations in which our staff or ownership hold a financial interest without full disclosure.
9. Social Media Standards
ReadCultured journalists and contributors who maintain public social media accounts and identify themselves as ReadCultured staff are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with our editorial values. They should not post content that undermines the publication’s credibility, expresses partisan political opinions, or compromises their ability to report fairly on any subject.
Social media posts by individual staff members represent their personal views and do not represent the official editorial position of ReadCultured unless explicitly stated.
10. Diversity and Inclusion
ReadCultured is committed to covering the full diversity of American communities. We actively seek out stories, sources, and perspectives from communities that are often underrepresented in mainstream news coverage. We avoid the use of stereotypes and strive for inclusive, respectful language in all of our reporting.
11. Corrections and Updates Policy
We are committed to correcting errors quickly, transparently, and prominently.
When a factual error is identified, we will append a correction notice to the original article stating clearly what was incorrect, what the correct information is, and the date the correction was made.
We do not silently alter published content without disclosure.
For significant errors that materially change the meaning or accuracy of an article, we will publish a prominent correction notice at the top of the article.
If an article requires substantial changes due to new information rather than an error, we will label the update clearly with the date and nature of the update.
To submit a correction request, contact us at contact@readcultured.com. We aim to review all correction requests within 48 hours.
12. Comment and User Content Moderation
ReadCultured reserves the right to moderate, edit, or remove user-submitted comments and content that:
Contains hate speech, harassment, or threats Is defamatory or knowingly false Promotes illegal activity Is spam or commercial solicitation Is off-topic or disruptive to constructive discussion
We are committed to fostering a respectful and constructive community for our readers.
13. Relationship with Newsbreak and Third-Party Platforms
Some ReadCultured content is distributed through Newsbreak and other third-party content platforms. Content distributed on these platforms is held to the same editorial standards as content published directly on ReadCultured.com. We do not publish content on third-party platforms that we would not publish on our own Site.
